Prima Mixed Media Day - Finnabair

Hi everyone!  hope you are having a great day.  Sorry I didn't make it by yesterday, but..well, life.

Anyway, a few weeks ago, Prima Marketing held an education day for retailers and Kristina over at Your Memories Here was nice enough to let me attend for her store.  The day was filled with classes to learn about the new art supplies that Prima has created.  One of the first things we did was play with this little book and the new mediums by Finnabair.

The inside isn't so great to share...filled with comparisons of how the different mediums work.  Glossy vs Matte, Heavy Body vs Soft, Gel vs Paste, etc.  Also how to use the new clear gesso...so fun.

I hope to find some time soon to share with you some of what I learned.  Oh, and I will be back to share what we did in Julie Nutting and Jamie Dougherty's classes as well.

Hugs.

Blooming in August

Good Monday morning!  I hope you had a great weekend.  It was definitely a full one for me. Saturday we got Brighton moved into his new apartment, and Sunday was spent attempting to be creative.   Speaking of creative, I have really been enjoying Jamie Dougherty's Blooming Through the Seasons classes.  Septemeber is the last of this quarter and then off we go into a new one...so if you would like to come play.....You can sign up for 3 months/6 months or all 12.

I am of course, a little behind in my art journal.  This is the girl for August...I am really liking her...not so much the flower tho.  sigh...oh well...I do still like it.  Lots of yummy water color crayons and pencils...and a bit of gellato just for fun.
And you know I have no patience, and I can't follow instructions, so I added her face while the gesso was still a bit wet...which in the end Iwas really happy with as it gave her face some depth.  lol

Anyway...hope you have a great day.

Creative Jump Start

Hi everyone!  Well, I am so far behind watching videos for creative jump start...but I am trying.  I made this page the other day to showcase this super fun wrapping paper roll by Suze Weinberg.  Loved it!

That said the idea of hanging it in my house didn't quite do it for me.  While quite lovely, it reallly didn't suit my style.  Anyway, I decided to do it on a much smaller scale...attaching it to an art journal page.

Instead of a paper tube, I wrapped an old pencil (one that had already lost 1/2 its length.  lol  The background was made by adding some Lindy's Stamp Gang Magicals to my gelli plate and then misting with water.  I think it made kind of a cool background.  Just saying.  lol

As behind as I am, if you haven't started you are even more so.  Go, run, hurry!!!  Sign up now.  You will have access to the videos till much later this year.  Creative Jump Start www.nathaliesstudio.com

Oh, and one more thing.  The winner of the Prima Haul Video contest is....
Skyann Smith!  Skyann, I will send you an email to get the deets on where to send your package.  Thank you to everyone who played along.  Be sure to be on the lookout for another fun contest soon.

More Prima ArtVenture Projects

Hi everyone!  Today I wanted to share with you more of the beautiful projects we made at the Prima ArtVenture event in Anaheim.  None of these projects are my original design, they were all project based classes that were taught at the event.

This first project was taught by Limor Weber.  So girly, pink, and lovely.  Using the new Prima papers, Lindy's Stamp Gang mists, and gorgeous Prima flowers.  Love it!  Right now it is living in my bedroom.

Next up, a super fun journal featuring Jamie Dougherty's new Bloom Girl Collection.  We even got to use the journal that she created.  Each of the inside pages are prints of her original artwork.  How cool is that?
We even got to use the new Color Bloom mists.
Something about this is still bothering me...think I may turn the chevrons, I think that is the problem.  hmmm
The final project I have to share is Steff Miller's.  How cute is the little doll?

This one was super hard for me as I really needed to be able to spread out to create...I actually ended up sitting out in the hallway with all my goodies around me so that I could see what I had.  Yep, I am that big of a goof.
It is entirely possible that she get more flowers...she just doesn't seem done.

Well, there ya go...projects 4-6 from Prima Art'Venture.  If you missed it, be sure and check out the first three projects here.

Gelli Plate

I started out the year so strong and now look at me...the month is not even up and I am terribly late today with a post.  lol  Blame it on my crazy weekend.  The boy was home from college so we spent lots of time hanging out, being a family...and we went to Cirque de Soleil.  I know...excuses.  lol

You may notice that I am working on a new blog design.  So hard...and all I do is tell my good friend Heather what to do...the poor thing just has to listen to me whine and complain about what I want it to look like.  Thank goodness she is such a good friend to get this done for me.  Big hugs and shout out!!!!

Today I have just a quick share.  I finally broke down and purchased a Gelli Plate.  After watching so many others use it, especially on the CJS videos (you still have time to sign up...) I had to try one for myself.  So much fun.  I used a big foam stamp from Donna Downey and the bottom of my paint bottle to make the design.  Loves!!!!!  Of course didn't know what to do with it once I made it...but I made it, lol, and that is what counts.

gelli plate, creative jump start, monoprintingart journal, monoprinting, shoes,

I really like the background before I added the photo...but I do love my shoes.  roflmao  I think I may move some stuff around and see if I like it better.  sigh  I used some gorgeous Liquitex acrylic paints for the color, and of course, the bottom of my bottle of Liquitex gesso created the circles.  lol

OK, well...it is the middle of the day, so I really should be getting something productive done.

Hugs.

Embossing and Gelatos

Hi everyone! Today I want to share with you a project I made using Faber Castell Gelatos and embossing. Did you know that the embossing will resist the Gelatos? For this project you will need a canvas (I always gesso first so that my mediums can move more freely), your stamp, embossing liquid and embossing powder (I used UTEE today)

First thing, stamp your image with the embossing pad onto your canvas and cover with your embossing powder.

You can use a color if you like, but I decided to leave mine clear.

Be sure and heat your embossing powder completely. You want it to be nice and shiny when it is done.
When it cools, you can add color with your Gelatos. Remember, as long as you stick with either warm, or cool, you won’t get mud. I chose three different colors, red, orange and yellow in layers to get an ombre effect.

Before trying to blend the colors, I misted lightly with water…just to get things moving.
Using my fingers, so that I can get in all the little crevices of my embossed image, I worked from top to bottom; too much movement back and forth and I would have mixed my colors all up. Which would have been fun, but wouldn't have had the same effect

After I blended all my colors, I just quickly went over my canvas with a baby wipe. The wipe will remove the color from the top of the embossed image….go lightly, or you will begin to remove some of the color from the canvas as well.

I then added layers of paper, lace and a fun die cut that I highlighted with another Gelato and my Pitt Pen. I
really wanted the image to **POP**.

I die cut and colored a few flowers with Gelatos and voila! DH and I in Paris.

Thanks for stopping by today and sharing with me.  If you would like to learn more fun techniques like these, you should check out Creative Jump Start.

Hugs.

Prima ArtVenture - Part 1

Hi everyone!  Well, as you may know, I spent a few days last week in Anaheim enjoying both CHA and the Prima Art'Venture event.  So much fun and so much inspiration.  Just in case you were curious, I wanted to share some of the items I made during  this event.  You wouldn't believe all the goodies we received to create with, not to mention the goodie bag (working on a video of that haul now).  Anyway, these classes were all project based, so if you look around the web and see other people's projects...well...now you know why they all look so similar.  lol

This first project is an art journal we made in Anna Dabrowska's class.  This is the second class I have down with Anna and she is just wonderful... so creative.

 `
You can't really tell from these photos, but there is great shine and it is much more inky black in real life.  Needless to say, Mackenzie grabbed this as her own.

Here is the project we made with Frank Garcia.  I need to find a frame so that this can hang in my bedroom. This is the first class I have taken with Frank and he is so way fun.

Next up, Nathalie Kalbach.  OK, she has got to be about the cutest thing ever!  Poor dear was not feeling well and this was the last class on the last day.  But she is so much fun and just pushed through.  Love her.

I came home and added a few items from my stash for this project...leaves, more flowers and a bit of bling.  Not sure I love it, but maybe once I get it into a frame?  Not sure the teal and green are really "me".

While all the classes were very project based, we did learn a few techniques.  Both Anna and Nathalie had us painting over our embellishments to change the color.  Anna with black gesso and then mists, Nathalie with white gesso and  chalk ink.  And Frank had us working the craft knife on our papers.

If you ever get a chance to go to one of these events, I would highly recommend it.

Well, back to work for me.

Hugs.

Art Journal

Hi everyone!  Sorry I am a bit late, but lately I haven't really been feeling it, blogging.....

I did however work on some projects for upcoming reveals as well as my art journal.  I don't just love it, but it was fun trying some new techniques.

I used some placed some older Thickers onto my canvas and covered them with a bit of gesso.  When that was dry I spritzed my letters with a few different colors of glimmer mist.
Some flowers, a bird (gotta put a bird on it) and a bit of lace completed my design.  A photo of my darling husband with a transparency completed the page.

Like I said, I don't love it...but had fun playing with gesso.

Ainsley is done with her writing so back to work for me.

Hugs.
